Yorkshire Dales
An ideal holiday base for lovers of hills and dales, water and wildness,
the Yorkshire Dales is one of England's finest upland National Parks
www.yorkshiredales.org.uk.
Wensleydale is at the heart of the Northern Dales, with broad, fertile
meadows skirting astonishing waterfalls and soaring high fells. Hawes,
one of the highest market towns in England, is the centre of cheese
production, while at Middleham there is a fine historic castle.
Its
watery magic captured by England's finest landscape artist J M W
Turner, Walden and West Burton nestle in a hollow of the little-known
Walden
Valley, A picturesque but little known village West Burton has a
broad village green and small, but spectacular waterfall.
York
For a complete contrast a stay in a self catering apartment in the
city of York at any time of year will allow you time to experience
something of its 2000 year history. York Minster, Stonegate, the Shambles
and
the JORVIK Viking Centre, www.jorvik-viking-centre.co.uk ,
the National Railway Museum and York Castle Museum www.york.castle.museum
are all well worth a visit.
From York it is but a short journey to Harrogate,
or for fine and contrasting country scenery a trip to the Yorkshire
Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors should not be missed. |
