Bluebell Cottage, Kettleburgh, Suffolk, UK

Style: Old Suffolk! Part of a medieval thatched Suffolk hall house, Bluebell Cottage has been sympathetically refurbished to create a wonderful two bedroom, two bathroom holiday cottage retaining some delightful original features.

Grounds: A delightful cottage garden with summer house with the bonus of large fenced woodland area where the children can play games and the dog can have a good run. (This area is also available to holidaymakers at Sparrow Cottage and Tarka Cottage which form part of Watermill Cottages.

Sleeps 4.

Ideal for: Two couples - there are two bedrooms, one with a super king, the other with twins which can be pushed together and two shower rooms - and for families with up to two children. Bluebell Cottage, along with its neighbours,Sparrow Cottage and Tarka Cottage, is dog friendly with a wonderful woodland area where you can let the dog have a good run.

A great location for walking and cycling - loads of public footpaths and quiet lanes to explore. On the banks of the River Deben, just a 4 minute walk from the small, peaceful village of Kettleburgh with its fine medieval church - St Andrews and riverside pub.

Nearby: Beyond the garden are footpaths galore, but take wellies and walk quietly if you are going to look at the river, there are swans nesting and otters bathing close by. Just a bike ride away from Earl Soham, Easton (look out for the crinkle crankle wall - the longest in Europe) and Framlingham, all extremely attractive villages with a variety of fascinating architecture and excellent traditional pubs, you can enjoy several days of exploration without bothering about the car. Young and old will adore Framlingham Castle and Easton Park Farm where children can feed the animals and learn more about farming There is an excellent riding school close by - Valley Farm - and at Cretingham an 18 hole golf course, pool and tennis courts, daily and weekly membership is available.

Getting Around: The countryside and villages are stunning and the coast just a twenty minute drive away. Explore the ancient port of Dunwich, the sandy beach and pier at Southwold and the seaside town of Aldeburgh, loved as much by artists, writers and musicians as by holiday makers.

Children: A great property for younsters, toddlers and small children will enjoy the cottage garden, whilst the slightly more adventurous can play in the fenced woodland area beyond, great for a game of football or hide and seek amongst the trees.

Provided: Toilertries for the shower, and a rather nice welcome hamper as well as the usual bed linen and towels

Packing tips: A tricky one as there is so much to do but certainly beach towels and walking shoes, bikes if you have them and of course golf clubs. If you enjoy horse riding do bring your hard hat etc as there is an excellent riding stable near by.

  • Ground Floor

    • Enter through the stable door and passing the ground floor shower room on your left go into the fitted, farmhouse-style kitchen complete with electric oven and hob, dishwasher and fridge with freezer compartment., microwave etc
    • Go through into the sitting room with comfy sofa, armchair and an open fire-place for cosy autumn and winter evenings. This double aspect south facing room is filled with light and creates a lovely space in which to unwind. Through an arch one enters the dining room with table and chairs and a door which opens onto the garden. Ipod player
  • First Floor

    • The straight stairs from the sitting room lead to the two first floor bedrooms and shower room. The sunny, south facing double bedroom with superking double bed is heavily beamed, with dressing table and lots of lights
    • The spacious twin bedded room is again extremely well fitted and spacious with bedside tables and lamps, large walk in cupboard and dressing table.
  • Outside

    • The front garden is laid to lawn - the grass a carpet of bluebells in spring. The rear garden has a small terrace with table and chairs and a grassed area beyond, At the end of the garden is a small summer house, again with table and chairs.
    • There is off road parking and space for bike storage in the coach lodge.
    • Beyond the gravelled parking area is a three acre grassed area planted with local trees and with ample space for ball games and dog walking
  • Services

    • The cottage has oil-fired central heating which can be supplemented by an open fire in the sitting room. A lovely welcome hamper is provided by the owners - who are usually on hand to help if needed.
    • For those who like a stroll to the pub there is a footpath to the Chequers Inn in the village. A short car ride will get you to the Queens Head at Brandeston where you will most likely enjoy some really good food
