Cottage details

Dunwich 4 miles (6.2km), Walberswick 7 miles (11km), Southwold(12 miles (19km) Aldeburgh 8 miles (13km)

A really comfortable house close to the church in the heart of Middleton, in the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Firethorn Cottage is both spacious and comfortably furnished providing wonderful accommodation for two families or a group of friends. The large front garden with lawns, shrubs and mature trees and plenty of parking space. The expansive enclosed garden to the rear has been beautifully landscaped and includes secluded sitting out areas for all times of the day. This delightful little country village on the road to nowhere and consequently oft driven past, Middleton is the only village in Suffolk to boast its own moor (a large expanse of meadow land stretching for over a mile from the village centre). The Minsmere river runs through the village on its way to the world famous RSPB reserve (just a short walk away) with its breath taking marshes and ever growing colony of bittern.

A great area for walkers and cyclists (bikes can be kept at the back of Firethorn Cottage). Middleton is just a few minutes bike ride from Westleton, with Walberswick and Southwold also within an easy cycle. As well as village fetes, Middleton has its own way of predicting the future - the Wren Hunt. Based on a Neolithic Druid tradition of telling the future by listening to the song of a captured wren on the evening of St Stephen's, today's celebration consists of a lantern lit procession from the village hall to The Bell Inn, where there is Molly dancing (the East Anglian form of Morris Dancing. Well worth visiting.

Nearest pub (50 yards) The Bell Inn - a traditional thatched building, good to visit in summer, lovely gardens and winter, cosy open fires.
