Cottage details

WOODBRIDGE 15 miles COLCHESTER 30 miles ALDEBURGH 32 miles Fairhaven faces the sea at Felixstowe Ferry, a tiny coastal hamlet marking the point where the river Deben meets the sea.

Visiting Felixstowe Ferry is like stepping back in time. There is a collection of cottages, old fishermen's huts, two very good pubs, a cafe and a couple of fresh fish stalls. To the seaward side the pebbly beach (the sand appears as the tide goes out) stretches southward. To the estuary side is the jetty from where generations of children and children at heart drop their crabbing lines.

The village has been spared the onslaught of the twenty first century. Sitting on the Millenium Green, looking out over Felixstowe Ferry Golf Course, the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Path and the Heritage Coast, it is not surprising that it is popular for its unchanging character.

Felixstowe Ferry is also very popular with sailors, there is a water ski centre which welcomes holiday makers and offers lessons in the summer as well as Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club. This is a boating village, small craft building and repairs are carried out on the estuary beach close to the quay from where the foot ferry takes holiday makers and their bikes across the estuary to Bawdsey Quay. Here there is a sandy beach, great for small children. Close by is the ancient market town of Woodbridge, Sutton Hoo the burial ground of Saxon Kings, Orford with its castle and Aldeburgh, home of the Aldeburgh Festival. In the heart of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to RSPB centres at Havergate and Minsmere and National Trust sites at Orfordness and Dunwich there will be lots to do at any time of the year. You might simply want to sit in comfort and look at the ever changing views. Nearest pubs The Victoria and The Ferry Boat Inn, just a half minute walk away!
