WOODBRIDGE 15 miles COLCHESTER 30 miles ALDEBURGH 32 miles
Felixstowe Ferry is a tiny coastal hamlet overlooking the Deben Estuary and the sea. A collection of cottages, two very good pubs, a cafe and a fresh fish stall, Felixtowe Ferry has been spared the onslaught of the twenty first century. Sitting on the Millenium Green, looking out over Felixstowe Golf Course, the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Path, and the Heritage Coast it is not surprising that it is popular for its unchanging character.
A great place for crabbing, Felixstowe Ferry is also very popular with sailors, there is a water ski centre which welcomes holiday makers (details in the cottage)as well as Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club. This is a boating village, craft building and repairs are carried out on the estuary beach close to the quay where there is a foot ferry taking holiday makers and their bikes across the estuary to Bawdsey Quay. Here there is a sandy beach, great for small children.
Close by is the ancient market town of Woodbridge, Sutton Hoo, the burial ground of Saxon Kings, Orford with its castle and Aldeburgh, home of the Aldeburgh Festival.
In the heart of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to RSPB centres at Havergate and Minsmere, and National Trust sites at Orfordness and Dunwich there will be lots to do at any time of the year. You might simply want to sit in comfort and look at the ever changing views. Nearest pubs The Victoria and The Ferry Inn, just a half-minute walk away!
