Located in the Bassenthwaite meadowlands below Skiddaw, Mireside Farmhouse is a unique combination of rural tradition and modern comforts

The solid stone house is a 17th century listed building which rigorous National Park Authority standards maintain fully in character, to the extent of preserving some charming peculiarities.

The interior has been tastefully furnished in a modern style. It is carpeted throughout, with the exception of a beautiful sandstone floor in the kitchen and a rugged slate floor in the boot room.

The building dates back to the late 17th Century and is a typical Lakeland farmhouse with the original house being extended on two occasions. The farm has been in our family since February 1801 when William Slater purchased "the Messuages, cottages. barns, stables, cowhouses gardens orchards, seventy acres of land, twenty acres of meadow and twenty acres of pasture" for one hundred and twenty pounds. The Slaters built Parkergate and High Side and have a long history in the village. evidenced by the headstones in St Bega's church. The family tree has been traced by distant relatives in Canada and in July 2000 there was a 'Slater reunion' with some 30 relatives returning from Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.

  • Living Rooms at Mireside

    • The kitchen has quality fitted units with ample cupboard and shelf storage space. It is well equipped to cater for eight, with a large fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, electric hob and fan oven.
    • There is a large solid wood farm table in the kitchen area with seating for eight.
    • The living area is open plan with the kitchen / dining area, creating a lovely feeling of spaciousness. The focal point of the room is the original fire surround, now containing a functional wood-burning stove. The room also has a TV and radio. There is a separate sitting room / games room, with a second TV, video, and plenty of games.
    • The boot room, which is generally used as the main entrance, has a washing machine and tumble drier (un-metered), and plenty of wet gear hanging space.
  • The Bedrooms at Mireside

    • Up the stone steps (mind your head on the low beams!), there is a large double room, and three twin rooms with views to Skiddaw, Ullock Pike and the Keswick fells.
    • A cot is available free of charge. There is an upstairs bathroom with shower, and a second shower room plus toilet downstairs.
